Life's a Beach, so . . . here they are! (in no particular order, that would be too hard)
San Diego - South Mission Beach's Cohasset Court Location of CAL-KING's annual California King Beach Party, this spot has history to go with its primo set up for enjoying the beach lifestyle. As one of California's last bastions of freedom when it goes to enjoying a cold beverage on the sand, it's hard to beat. The proximity of the surf and the boardwalk's scenery adds to the equation as well!
Huntington Beach - Pier Site of the now infamous Extreme Whipped Cream Coed Volleyball exhibition, these courts are located in the heart of Surf City. While no more surf contest bikini riots are planned, it's still a primo location for tanning beauties. Can you say "hottie"? With Duke's Barefoot Bar overlooking the courts there's really not much to complain about!
Santa Barbara - East Beach Mellow locals blend well with the influx of tourists in order to achieve a nice balance for socializing on this beautiful beach. Everyone meets later to do the State Street "crawl". Be sure to check out the annual "Fiesta" celebration in August if you haven't already. Fiesta is SB's version of Mardi Gras with a south of the border feel. Viva la Fiesta!
Santa Cruz - Main Beach Just north of the Famous SC Beach & Boardwalk amusement park, this is where you'll find the local Nor Cal talent playing. Memorial Day weekend is always booked so make your reservations early to officially kick off the summer season. While booze is banned on this beach, the locals know the tricks of the trade to get the party started!
Lake Tahoe - Zephyr Cove It doesn't get much better than this! Surrounded by the beautiful Tahoe scenery with the lake just steps away, this set up is paradise. Did we mention the outdoor bar patio right next to the courts? Cocktails! The locals here don't get much friendlier either, just watch your sets - there ain't no "loose" rules around here. Don't miss the casinos at night!
Hermosa Beach - Pier This beach is home to many of the aspiring and current stars of the sport. While the serious players train, other locals play up and down the beach. While the Ack's court is a few blocks down on 16th Street, the Pier is the place where the top dogs square off when it's tournament time. The bars on the Pier Plaza are a fun place to party day or night.
Santa Monica - State Beach Now you're talking about God's Country. There used to be some guys named Stokie and Sinjin that used to play around here. I think they got tired of dominating. The Marix is the place to meet for some cold ones after a hot day in the sun. Plenty of fun to be had, just remember to buy your round!
Manhattan Beach - Pier While home to the prestigious Manhattan Open, there's been some recent confusion as to how to add your name to the Pier alongside the legends of the sport. The real time to check out a "tournament" at this beach is during the annual 6-man competition. This is what you'd call a volleyball party. Top players party their asses off. See it to believe it!
Mexico - Estero Beach This place speaks for itself. Just go, even though most of you have already and keep going back for more. A party migrates south to Estero at the end of June each year. There are a few courts set up as well for the hundreds (is it thousands?) that participate. Though who are we kidding, this place is a party. Don't miss the hotel pool shenanigans!
Laguna Beach - Main Beach This beach hosts one of the last true "Open" tournaments. If you ever get into the main draw you better have game or it's gonna be "uno-dos-adios" baby! The final attracts a good crowd. This town also has charm and is always bustling with activity. Take a walk around and check it out or go for a quick body surf between games.
Capistrano Beach - Cappo With Orange County's pumping Surf Industry looming close by, this beach also has its share of Beach Volleyball legends. Some guy named Karch made his home here, and was known to come out and show his stuff every now and then before cleaning up on the pro circuit. There are plenty of "lifestyle" diehards that chill here as well.
Think any other beach deserves a mention here? Just let us know.
